Labor announces revamp to the SCHADS award if re-elected for Social, Community, Home Care and Disability workers
The Albanese Government has announced the revamp of the SCHADS award for Social, Community, Home Care and Disability workers if re-elected. The Australian Services Union (ASU) SA+NT welcomes their pledge to support and fund pay increases and better career pathways for those in the sector.
This announcement from the Albanese government is their commitment to address the growing need for an improved award. The Albanese government agrees that:
The work of the social, community and disability sector is essential
You deserve fair pay and real career pathways
The current system isn’t working – it’s time to fix it
If Labor are re-elected they have committed to:
Join the ASU’s Fair Work Commission case
Support a modern classification structure
Skilled Respected Equal campaign
The ASU have been in the Fair Work Commission calling for action to revamp the SCHADS award due to inadequate standards of pay, working conditions and protections.
As the union for Social, Community and Disability workers we continued to lobby for a revamp, launching the campaign Skilled Respected Equal to address these concerns for the sector.
The announcement by the Albanese government acknowledges what ASU members have been campaigning for all along, the recognition and respect they deserve.
